CCF grant supplement shealthcare to Denton County children

The CoServ Charitable Foundation recently approved a $10,000 grant for PediPlace, a facility located in Denton County that provides healthcare to children in the community who have no access to care due to economic, geographic, or cultural barriers. The Foundation’s funding is largely generated by monthly contributions from CoServ Electric members, CoServ Gas customers, and CoServ employees who donate to a program called Operation Roundup®.

PediPlace is a not-for-profit pediatric clinic that provides a broad scope of health services through a highly qualified, bilingual staff of medical professionals, trained office staff, and dedicated volunteers.  At PediPlace, children who may be ineligible for care at traditional facilities are given a chance at a healthy life. Since PediPlace operates largely within the CoServ service area, our Foundation is proud to play a role in supporting PediPlace’s “Healthy Kids” program. Associated costs include medical supplies and laboratory testing related to providing preventative care to children in the program. PediPlace saves taxpayers and hospitals thousands of dollars a year on non-emergency and indigent care. Uninsured families typically don’t have access to a healthcare provider and end up in the emergency room (at the expense of taxpayers). PediPlace partners with area hospitals to ensure that disadvantaged children have access to a medical facility regardless of the family’s ability to pay for medical care.

Here is an example of a PediPlace success:

A 12-year-old girl, Janie, suffers from chronic asthma. Her parents, though employed, did not have health insurance and did not qualify for public programs. As a result, Janie’s condition wasn’t treated preventatively, and when Janie couldn’t breath, her parents would take her to the emergency room. At times, Janie would be hospitalized for days. Now, as a PediPlace patient, Janie’s asthma is under control. Her periodic well child appointments at PediPlace monitor her condition and medication.

Thanks to CoServ Electric members’, CoServ Gas customers’, and CoServ employees’ contributions, children like Janie receive the care they need – even under the most difficult of circumstances.
